Winston Churchill and Hitler
Winston Churchill and Adolf Hitler had a legendarily bad relationship. Churchill refused to surrender or even negotiate with Hitler, because he believed rightly Hitler could not be trusted. Hitler accused Churchill of "war-mongering" which no one but his own populace believed. Germany had been so sure that the British would quickly capitulate, they built homecoming decorations for their troops, which they had believed would soon be victorious. Hitler wished to punish the insubordinate Churchill and ordered his generals to prepare an invasion of Great Britain. However, Germany did not have the naval resources to complete an amphibious invasion as Hitler's generals were quick to tell him. Then the leader of the Luftwaffe, Hermann Göring, told him that he thought his planes could bring Great Britain down. It was unprecedented maneuver, wagging war solely from the air, and Hitler had no guarantees. But, it was his only option until his nation was strong enough to affect an invasion.
