International Reactions
In France, Prime Minister Clemenceau was voted out office for not achieving all the demands of the people and not restricting Germany enough. In Great Britain, the treaty was considered too harsh and greedy by the French. In the United States, it met mixed reactions, particularly from the Republicans, who unanimously opposed Democratic President Wilson and most of his actions.
In the Weimar Republic (Germany), the Treaty of Versailles was heavily protested for its harsh terms. The German people had believed Germany would receive a peace treaty in accordance with Wilson's Fourteen Points, which the treaty did not resemble. Although many citizens had wanted peace, the masses would later blame the "November Criminals" (Jews, socialists, Communists, and other outliers) for "stabbing Germany in the back" and forcing the treaty on them. This would give rise to Hitler's Nazi Party as many either agreed with its anti-Semitism or were willing to overlook it, because he promised to revoke the treaty and bring back German honor and glory.
